Dailys can be Dangerous

I have always been somewhat of a Daily Quest fanatic since their induction to the game in Burning Crusade. Being a fairly active person I liked the idea of questing even at level cap and I found playing the auction house, while profitable, rather boring. The only problem was that with the old system, the daily quests never changed. You would do the same ones over and over again until it got to the point of going into auto pilot, knocking off the limit in less than 30 minutes and remembering little to nothing of the experience. Cata's daily system has changed that to a certain degree. While some quests never change, they did add a little variety to certain zones, with some daily quests only appearing randomly, or having them generally change each day like the cooking and fishing daily did in Wrath.

There are also a plethora of zones which contain daily quests so you can easily reach the limit of 25 without doing the same daily quest hubs every day. Only the Twilight Highland's quests are annoyingly repetitive but since you can also gain reputation with those necessary factions via use of the tabards they can be skipped. The "Wack a Pygmy" quest in Uldum is one that I will do just for the chuckles and I can't imagine ever getting old.

Tol Barad has become my new favorite daily quest zone. Why? Because doing the dailys there are a challenge every time. Unlike the Wintergrasp daily quests they don't have to be done while pvp or during the Battle Ground situation. However the mobs that litter these two islands are no joke, some of them hit quite hard and respawn rapidly. For a new 85 (as you can't enter the zone until then) they can even become overwhelming. With 34 different quests to cycle through are is always variety and the items they have available are useful for more than just pvping, including but not limited to a pet and two mounts, a flying and a land. One of the most frequent complaints I hear about Tol Barad is that you CAN NOT fly there. Personally this is one of the things I LOVE about the Islands, it brings us back to the basics of remembering how to move around without the advantages flying gives us. Everything is hostile and attacks come from all directions, threat in a questing zone is not something we have had to deal with for a LONG time. I find it refreshing.

There is one other random thing that has added an element of spice to the daily quest grind. Deathwing and his sporadic visits.  Now I made the mistake of complaining that the first of my toons to get the "Stood in the fire" achievement was an alt. Then when Daraia got hit I was afk and missed it completely. Apparently Deathwing heard me mouthing off, because since then I have been hit FOUR TIMES while trying to do my daily quests, if he keeps this up I am going to be VERY grateful for my guild perk which reduces durability damage.

Memories....

Little bear, there is so much that you have missed out on, let me ask you, do you remember starting out with only ONE little dagger? When we use to have to gather herbs like fadeleaf and swiftthistle so you could craft things like blinding powder, vanish powder and poisons? If you didn't have STACKS of those powders you didn't use those moves often? When we were all addicted to Thistle Tea? When in order to get a buff you had to be out of stealth? When casting Detect traps implemented the swirly ball? When you had to have Thieves tools to lockpick or disarm anything and it came from a quest? When people wanted rogues for their Lockpicking skill? When you had to wait for 3-5 sunders before you could attack and then you started out SLOWLY, if you got high on the aggro you STOPPED dps until you dropped down? When a rogue's best friend was a paladin with Hand of Salvation?

Do you remember when to be properly prepared to raid you had buff food, scrolls, regents, flasks, resistance gear, and if you had ANY empty bag space you were lucky? When poisons had charges and only lasted a maximum of 10 min so you were constantly having to reapply them? When entering or exiting an instance would remove your poisons? When placing a sap took you out of stealth unless you specced for a 90% chance for it NOT to and hated every time that 10% it failed?

Do you remember when AV fights took 12+ hours, sometimes entire weekends? When Warsong Gulch could be endless? When to earn pvp rank required HOURS of dedicated play? People would leave battlegrounds because the other team was full of Battle Marshals or High Warlords? When the defense channel was for SERIOUS pvpers and required rank to talk in? When there was such a thing as a DISHONORABLE kills?

Do you remember when it took the best guilds in the world MONTHS to kill every boss in the game because they had to craft resistance or other special gear for EVERYONE? When you had to clear trash both TO and FROM the boss? When raiding meant attempting to get 40 people together at the same time and required HOURS of grinding respawning trash?

Do you remember when you needed crowd control to do a 5 man dungeon? When the art of pulling a room could mean the difference between a wipe or victory? When the Horde complained that the Alliance had the advantage with Paladins and Alliance complained that Shamans were better? When Blues were considered GOOD gear and Epics were something you bragged about? When to get INTO a raid required a long, involved and sometimes expensive attunement quest?

Do you remember when flight paths weren't linked so you had to specifically select each stop on the way to your destination and if you messed up it required repeating the process? When to get to a dungeon you had to WALK there? When getting your first mount required Level 40 and training in the skill cost LESS than the mount? When epic speed mounts were rare because they took months to gather enough gold to be able to afford?

Do you remember when if an individual had more than one max level character the thought was they must have no life and live in their parent's basement? When earning gold took a LONG time and hitting the gold cap was almost an achievement in and of itself? When there were no such things as "Daily Quests"?

So often we talk about how WoW USE to be as if it was this golden paradise of gamers. Sure some things have gotten SIGNIFICANTLY easier like leveling and managing the basic needs of a character. These are just the things that come quickly to my mind, what about you? Are any of the things I mentioned stuff you would wish to have return?

Blue Dragonhawk

So last night I bit the bullet and finally did it. My last mount for the Mountain o' Mounts achievement was the Cenarion War Hippogryph. It took having two guild mates threatening to buy it for me to get me to cough up the dough. I can't help it I am CHEAP. (Can't you hear the little birdies singing?) Wait, lets just go with "Thrifty" it sounds better. Sad thing is I STILL have mounts I want to get. This is quite the change from the individual in Burning Crusade who was always saying "Why do you need another mount? Your butt can only sit on one at a time ANYWAY."

This whole journey started when I was attacked by the Time Lost Protodrake while out picking herbs during the first few weeks of Wrath. It spawned right on top of me and all I saw was the silver dragon as it swooped down. My first thought was "Oh crap a rare, I am going to die" since my last experience with a rare dragon was during Burning Crusade when it took 5 people to take one down. Surprisingly the thing had hardly ANY health and was dead at my feet in a matter of moments. Even more shocking it had a MOUNT on it. Nowhere is there a warning label which states "Caution, this creature's venom will infect you with an itch to collect MORE mounts to keep him company". Before this time, if it wasn't BLACK I wasn't the least bit interested in acquiring it.

I find it ironic that almost exactly one year ago I discussed this achievement and stated that there was NO WAY you could do it without spending a GREAT DEAL of money.  Let me just share that the ONLY expensive mount I own is the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth and THAT was only purchased at the request of my guild for raids. While I was EXTREMELY reluctant to make the 16k plunge the convenience is well worth it. The largest chunk of my collection is made up of reputation based mounts that I seldom use because they are land based. Only one of them is a "real money" mount and I got THAT as a gift. Of the mounts I DO use they are almost exclusively drop or achievement based.

My rare mount farming partner is thrilled I have hit this milestone because he figures any mounts that drop will go to him. (He still has about 25 left to go on his achievement.) My problem is that the itch I got from my Time Lost hasn't lessened in severity. So I will still be hitting up Utgarde Pinnacle for the Blue Protodrake. Rivendare will fall at my hands yet again until I get his Deathcharger, and even after my partner gets his Feather duster I will be doing stealth runs of Sethekk Halls. Most likely I will work on getting the Turkey but I have given up on the Sea Turtle, unless he is kind and comes up while I am fishing for fish feasts.

For those of you still working on collecting, don't give up. From what Bornakk has stated the number of mounts we will have available to us is only going to increase as time goes on. Also the addon Livestock is great for giving you variety. What I most enjoy about it is the fact I can chose which mounts I want included in my random selection.

So happy hunting and Good Luck!

Mother's Day

You know you have reached the pinnacle of "Geek Mom" when your husband and children get you an in game mount for Mother's Day. I logged on and noticed that rather than having Daraia selected it was my Death Knight. My heart dropped because the LAST time something like that happened I had been hacked. Now I have an authenticator so that seemed less likely. A quick peruse through all my characters showed nothing out of the ordinary. A shrug of my shoulders and off I went into my routine. It wasn't until I stopped to empty my bags of trash at the vendors that I discovered the letter.

It seems the sneaky plate wearer in the family snatched my authenticator while I was away and logged into my account. He then proceeded to teach EACH of my toons the Celestial Steed. So yes, I now I have a star pony for my mount collection. Just two more mounts to go and Daraia will have 100.

While it isn't the Chopper, it works since I got a Chopper for my Hubby for Father's Day last year. I think my lowbies may get more use out of it but I do like the fact that it has 310 flight speed due to my other 310 mounts.

So don't forget to tell your Mother "Thank you" for taking the time to bring you into this world and thank you to my little minions for my Mother's Day gift. It truly fits your Mom.

Herd of Star Ponies

So yesterday Blizzard made two new items available in their store. Of course the internet and trade chat are full of individuals expressing either their excitement or disdain over the choice. Name calling abounds on both sides. Records are being set as we speak.

The major focus is on the much anticipated Celestral Steed. When MMO Champion first data mined this the majority of people assumed it would be the reward for downing Algalon in Ulduar in Hard Mode. While it would have made two drop mounts in one large instance the precedence for that had been set WAY back in Vanilla WoW with Zul'Grub. (Though the Tiger and Raptor mounts are rare drops.) Well Ulduar has come and gone, so much so that unless it happens to have the weekly random boss kill in it few even bother to darken its doors. No Star Pony. At this point the assumption being made was that perhaps it would make its appearance as part of the new trading card game. Again precedence has been set in that.

Then (to some) the unthinkable happens. Blizzard announces that the mount people have been discussing for MONTHS is going to be SOLD for REAL MONEY at the Blizzard Store. It will be a BoA item which scales with riding scale and the fastest mount that character happens to already have. (Meaning if you have a 310 speed it will ALSO go 310.) In addition to that like the Headless Horseman's mount it can serve both as a land AND a flying mount.

Achievement mongers are up in arms. This was suppose to be another "cool" mount exclusively for THEM. Altaholics are drooling because for $25 they can mount EVERY TOON THEY HAVE with a NICE looking mount. No rep grinding required. Those of us who don't have the spare cash to purchase one are left with four options, convince someone ELSE to purchase it for you, brave purchasing one with in game gold from someone who offers up a key (hello new hacker opportunity), wait until we have the cash or just go without and try to ignore the herd of star ponies over running Dalaran. As a mount collector it has been a difficult pill to swallow but I will just have to wait. Spending $25 dollars on a vanity item while neck deep in a kitchen and double bath renovation is just NOT going to happen.

Yes, the steed IS a useful item in that it CAN be used by ALL your characters. Lets face it, it certainly looks different from the mounts you can use as a lower level that don't involve LUCK from the trading card game, even LARGER investments on Ebay (hello, ANOTHER hacker/scam opportunity) or attempting to get a friend to join up with you and level. The last option causing some to just purchase yet ANOTHER account. Now the major difference with all these others is that THOSE mounts are only good for a SINGLE character. Here we are getting something that ALL our characters both present AND future can use.(Worgen on star ponies.....Twilight again?)

Now as a mount collector I will say this. I want it for my collection but as others have stated this is going to be a mount that becomes redundant quickly if you are only after it to "be cool". I had to laugh when I logged on yesterday and our guild was busy discussing it. One player was giving a count by count run down on their position in the cue. Another (who is ALSO a mount collector) was complaining that it really looked funny with his Night Elf so he was sticking to his Spectral Tiger. A third was attempting to talk everyone ELSE out of buying one because he wanted to be the only one in the guild WITH it. (Unfortunately for him about 5 people already HAD it and were busy flying circles around each other outside Dalaran.) The vast majority were on the fence as to purchasing it or not.

After seeing it in game, my opinion is that it doesn't look as nice as it does on a dark background showing off all the detail. If I can ever get one I would most likely only use it at night time.

Beyond that, for those who are screaming about "micro transactions and slippery slope" I want you to consider something. Which would you prefer: a raise in subscription fees or Blizzard getting their extra money via convenience services and vanity items? We have been playing this game for FIVE years. In that time the subscription fee has not increased ONE CENT. At the same time the player base and expectations of those players has risen extensively. I would rather have those with the disposable income covering the additional expenses keeping Activision happy so they leave the REST of Blizzard alone to focus on the games I enjoy playing. They are a BUSINESS first, they are not required to give a percentage of their proceeds to some charity so that you can then claim that is the only reason you are making the investment.

Now the Lil'XT vanity pet just hasn't received much notice because of the focus on the Celestial Steed. A couple of our pet collectors immediately picked him up. When I saw the video I though "how CUTE" then we had three in the raid last night and my attitude was "shut him UP". Like the Pandaren Monk  the noise can quickly get on your nerves. While it is awesome that they are making the pets more interactive (I do like the fact that the XT pet will destroy any train set it comes in contact with.) for those who like to have vanity pets out during raids or instances it can cause issues. He is also much LARGER than previous vanity pets I have seen, almost as tall as a gnome and in one raid I saw one that was human size. I don't know if they scale with their owners, had something put on them or what but confusing him with a small plate wearer in the heat of battle could prove interesting.

Rep: Sons of Hodir

The Sons of Hodir are one of the most important factions to have reputation with (unless you happen to be a Scribe) because they control our much needed shoulder enchants. Where in Burning Crusade players had a choice to support either the Aldor or the Scryers,  in Wrath there are only the Sons of Hodir and they make you WORK to get THEIR enchants. Lets begin by covering who exactly this faction is then move on to how you go about gaining their favor.

The Sons of Hodir are not actually the biological offspring of Watcher Hodir as the name somewhat implies. Rather these Frost Giants are Hodir's creations. Servants designed to assist Hodir in his duties as guardian over the ice and snow. There is also some speculation that Hodir is where the concept of Father Winter first came about, his workers are just A WHOLE LOT larger than those of Santa Claus. When Prim Designate Loken betrayed the rest of the Watchers, Hodir disappeared from his Temple of Winter and the Frost giants believed him dead.  Before they could take the time to truly investigate however they found themselves under attack by their former ally Thorim who believed them responsible for the death of his wife. It is at this point that players first encounter them.

Thorim's followers, the Frost Vrykul and the Earthen, with the loss of THEIR leader to his grief are now in three separate camps. The Hyldnir, which are an exclusively Frost Vrykul female organization, have coped with their leader's despondency by continuing his war against the Frost Giants and battling amongst themselves in hopes of discovering one of them worthy to replace Thorim's deceased wife Sif. The idea is that if a NEW mate is found he will snap out of his stupor and get back to work. Of the Frost Vrykul males, they are treated as slaves to the females, (think blue skinned amazons). The rest of Thorim's Frost Vrykul followers have fallen to the thrall of the Lich King. The Earthen on the other hand have recognized that Thorim was deceived and battle alone against Loken's forces, continuing Thorim's work while he is unable to.

When players first enter Storm Peaks, not having a clue about any of this history they will discover that both the Hyldnir and the Frost Giants are hostile to them. In fact one of the goblin females located at the small outpost of K3 will ask for assistance in recovering her male colleges. Thus begins the long attunement like chain to discover exactly what is going on in Storm Peaks.

The first section of the chain which is sixteen quests in length begins with "They took our Men" from Gretchen at K3.  This part of the chain deals with learning about the Hyldnir and eventually becoming a part of them (via disguise). Once you are deemed worthy to be a fighting member of the Hyldnir you are asked to create bear riding  harness. This will send you on to an eight part chain in which you capture yourself a bear mount before entering competition to be Thorim's new wife. At the end of this section Thorim wakes up enough to explain what has happened and admits that he was deceived. It was the realization that he not only had lost his wife but one of his best friends that has sent him into deep depression. Finally he decides that purhaps it is time to attempt to repair the damage he caused so he sends you to help mend the fence so to speak.

While helping the Frost Giants against their common foe the Iron Giants you need to make sure you pick up the Slag Covered Metal off of one of the corpses. This will start a two part parallel chain which is needed to continue further. Once you have completed BOTH Mending Fences AND A Spark of Hope return to Thorim at the Temple of Storms. Now at this point you are Neutral with the Son's of Hodir. This means you can now land in their capital of Dum Niffelem with out fear.

Previously you would now see a variety of quests open up around Dum Niffelem, completing these will open the six daily quests. There is also a six part chain which sends you BACK to Thorim, now relocated to the Terrace of the Makers. Thorim has two quests for you The Earthen Oath and Loken's Lackeys. Once you have completed both of these Thorim asks you to accompany him to the Temple of Wisdom while he confronts Loken. It doesn't go well and in the end Thorim is captured just like Hodir was. When you report what you have seen to King Jokkum, the present leader of the Sons of Hodir he sends you to the Halls of Lightning, where Loken is known to be working. I personally find the quest he gives you rather disturbing as he wants Loken's lying tongue as proof he is no longer living.

Now since patch 3.0.8 there IS an easier way to get reputation with this faction. However you STILL have to do ALL the quests up to Forging an Alliance. Once you are neutral with the Sons of Hodir you can go to their quartermaster Lillehoff and turn in stacks of 10 Relics of Ulduar for 250 reputation each. The Relics drop off of pretty much any mob located in Storm Peaks or the Ulduar 5 man dungeons. Doing this can easily get you from hostile to exalted in just a matter of hours verses the WEEKS it use to take. Relics are also MUCH easier to farm than Everfrost. Not only that unlike Everfrost which is bind on pick up the Relics can be sold on the auction house so it is rather easy to pick up a stack if farming is not your thing.

Lillehoff has more than just the shoulder enchants to sell. Mount collectors will be interested in his TWO land mounts, the Ice Mammoth or the roomier three passenger Grand Ice Mammoth. Tailors will want to pick up the pattern for Glacial Bags, while these now have a 7 day cool down they will ALWAYS sell on the auction house for a decent amount. Leather workers can also find buyers easily for the Mammoth Mining Bag so that is recipe they should obtain.

At the beginning of Wrath players cursed this faction to all perdition due to the time consuming demand of grinding daily quests. Now they are MUCH kinder to the casual player. The only issue people seem to have is getting lost while working on the attunement chains. My encouragement would be to make sure you have a set aside a couple of hours of uninterpreted play time to work until you have access to Lillehoff.

Happy Grinding!

Rep: The Oracles

The wolvar have an arch enemy, those they call the "Big Tongues" or The Oracles. These strange little reptilian people are actually gorlocs or the next evolution of the more common murloc. The reason that the wolvar have such issues with them is that the Oracle tribes actually inhabited the Sholazar basin FIRST so when the Frenzyheart tribe was displaced and chose it as their new home they were not to pleased to discover it already occupied.

The Oracles are made up of several different tribes of gorlocs with the main village being located at Rainspeaker Canopy. It is here you will end up after completing "Just following Orders" for the Frenzyheart. What makes this faction so interesting is their perceived PURPOSE in the area. When the gorlocs discovered this oasis in the arctic north they interpreted it to be a gift from the "gods" and all the artifacts left behind which keep the zone topical "shrines". So while they in fact know little to nothing about the Titans themselves, they have set themselves up as guardians for all of the relics they left behind.

Since the Oracles see themselves as having a purpose they view the intrusion of the Wolvar as more of a annoyance than anything else. The "puppy-men" as they call them keep wanting to fight over the territory while they would rather just focus on collecting "shinies" for their shrines. Any attempts to compromise with the Frenzyheart have been rebuffed because the wolvar just can not comprehend SHARING period.

So where does that leave the Oracles? Looking for helpful "Dry Skins" to provide a buffer. Unlike the wolvar the Oracles have a concrete grasp on the value of a good "Treasure" motivator to get individuals to help them out and thin out the Wolvar ranks FOR them. They offer four different non combat companion pets and even better a MOUNT to keep people coming back even AFTER they reach exalted reputation with them.

So how do you build that reputation? As with the Frenzyheart once you have completed the "Hero's Burden" chain you will be given a choice as to WHO you wish to support. The nice thing about choosing Oracles at that point is that you are already honored with them so reaching exalted and it's promised prizes is that much closer. Each day you will be offered three daily quests at Rainspeaker Canopy.

Appeasing the Great Rain Stone will always be available. Make sure you have your Oracle companion to help you gather the "shinies". If you happen to loose your companion's summoning item just speak to High-Oracle Soo-say who gives out the quest and you can get another one. Now there is some debate as to which of the three is best for this quest, Lafoo, Jaloot or Moodle. My personal favorite is Jaloot as I find Moodle's constant complaining irritating and Lafoo is easily distracted by bugs, Jaloot seems to REALLY enjoy doing this quest however.

Oracle Soo-nee will send you out each day to do "routine maintenance" for all the shrines by dealing with the various spirits in the area. He has four different quests he offers at random. A Cleansing Song, Song of Fecundity, Song of Reflection, and Song of Wind and Water.

Oracle Soo-dow will offer three quests which deal with the Wolvar annoyance. Mastery of the Crystals, Power of the Great Ones, or Will of the Titans. Each of these quests is actually turned in not back at Rainspeaker Canopy but at another Oracle village called Sparkedtouched Haven to Lightningcaller Soo-met. While each of the quests DOES give you some device to help, you don't have to use it to get credit, so for those classes who can AOE it is often easier to just do it yourself rather than use them.

Completing all eight quests will gain you the achievement Savior of the Oracles. Reaching exalted reputation with them grants The Oracles achievement.

What a long, strange trip it's been

Since this was requested:

I finally got this done. I was 4 horde shy for With a Little Help from My Friends last year. (Trying to pvp and handle all the Holiday stuff just didn't work well for me and I kept forgetting I needed to sit back and get kills not KILL.) So I finally got it finished in Wintergrasp. Have to say that is the BEST place EVER to work on this achievement. Reason being is rather than just sitting on your duff milking Honor kills (something I just can't STAND) you can man a gun and pew pew to your hearts content as a melee. I am even considering doing this achievement on my Priest and Hunter who I NEVER pvp with.

As the comments stated in Guild chat now I can match our Holiday Tabard with its purple background and green Christmas tree. *shutters*

Just need a few more and I will have my Hundred mounts. All without breaking down and buying any of the really expensive ones....though...yeah I may get myself a chopper as a Christmas present.

Rep: Kurenai

The Kurenai (which is Draenei for "redeemed") are an Alliance only faction found primarily in Nagrand but they do have a small base at Orebor Harborage in Zangarmarsh. The Kurenai are the escaped remnants of the Draenei defenders of Shattrah City during its destruction at the hand of the Horde and Legion forces. Due to the poisoning they suffered there they were transformed into what is now known as the Broken. Many went insane as a result of what befell them and even more were later enslaved. Unable to coexist with the other Draenei who had escaped they created for themselves their own home in the city of Telaar in Nagrand. While there are other Broken factions scattered around Outland the Kurenai are the only ones actively pursuing reestablishing contact with it's Draenei brethren.

Alliance players will start out unfriendly with the Kurenai (Horde at Hostile) but gaining reputation with this somewhat cautious tribe is rather simple if tedious.

Simply killing Kil'sorrow cult members, Murkblood Broken, Warmaul and Boulderfist ogres located around Nagrand with give you 10 reputation each with them all they way up through Exalted. Personally I would recommend the ogres over the other two so that you can also gather the Obsidian Warbeads which can be turned in for a repeatable quest that gives 500 reputation each turn in of stacks of 10 for this faction.

In total there are 44 quests which give out Kurenai reputation. Nine are located at the Haborage in Zangarmarsh but the rest are all in Nagrand. One of the more memorable chains is the one involving Corki. This overly curious adolescent happens to be the son of the head of the Kurenai and players will repeatedly be asked to go rescue him from his latest act of stupidity.

One of the most motivating factors for gathering this reputation is the eight epic Talbuk land mounts made available to collectors by Trader Narasu.

Rep: Netherwing

Before we get into how to gain reputation with the Netherwing faction we are going to take a little bit of time to look into WHO exactly they are. Wowhead and Wowwiki will only tell you that "They are spawned from Deathwing's Blackdragon flight's eggs and infused with raw nether-energies." However conversations that take place between several NPC's located in Outland as well as lore contained in the book Beyond the Dark Portal give us a much better understanding of this race of Dragons.

The Netherwing Faction is actually the result of Deathwing's continued quest to create the "ultimate dragon flight". Taking the eggs his son Nefarian had manipulated with in Blackwing Lair he smuggled them into Draenor and infused them with the Nether-energies located there. However when Deathwing returned to Azeroth some of the Netherwing Flight began to realize they longer needed to be tools of their creator and started to attempt to create a new identity for themselves free of the Black Dragonflight and it's influence.

When players first encounter this faction it is usually in Shadowmoon Valley at Netherwing Fields. There you will find a "High Elf" by the name of Mordenai walking around pleading for assistance in helping the netherdrakes. One of the limiting factors about this faction is that you MUST have Artisan Riding before you will be able to pursue it. You don't need an epic flying MOUNT but you DO need the skill. Once you have that training Mordenai will send you to seek out Neltharaku and you are now on your way to building Netherwing Faction Reputation.

Netherwing Ledge is where you will be going for the majority of your quests and as your reputation builds new daily quests will become available to you. Some of these quests are based on your professions, some are available to all, but the majority are located around the main camp area or in the mine on the Ledge. Now when this faction was first introduced grinding out the reputations took on average a couple of  weeks. This is no longer the case as fewer people are now in the zone at one time. It is now not uncommon for an individual to go from hated to exalted in only three or four days. The reason for this is the Netherwing Eggs. These little gems can be located and farmed all over the ledge and in the mine as well as their chance of dropping from killed mobs, mined or herbed items. There is no limit to the number of times this repeatable quest can be done per day and they stack so they don't take up much bag space.

In total there are thirty six quests that give Netherwing faction Reputation.

From Neutral to Friendly you have access to:
Netherwing Crystals, A Slow Death, and The Not-So-Friendly Skies. If you are a miner you have access to Nethercite Ore.  Skinners will have access to Nethermine Flyer Hide, Herbalist can collect Netherdust Pollen
There is also the one time only quest A Job Unfinished.

Friendly to Honored will open up three more quests and three more daily quests.
Crazed and Confused, The Great Murkblood Revolt,Overseeing and You: Making the right Choices this quest leads to one of my FAVORITE daily quests:The Booterang: A Cure for the Common Peon... Picking Up the Pieces and Dragons are the Least of Our Problems both are complete in the mine

Honored to Revered contains a six part chain quest called Earn Your Wings in addition to one other quest that sends you to Nagrand. It is in that area you will need to go for your newest daily Disrupting the Twilight Portal.

Revered to Exalted introduces an Aldor/Scryer specific group quest in which you go to the base of the specific faction you support and make them aware of the Dragonmaw's plan's to attack. You then help them to defend their base as well as deceive the Dragonmaw into believing they were successful.

Once you reach exalted be prepared for a rather fun final quest which will result in you being transported back to Shattrah City. There Barthamus will give you  the opportunity to select one of the drakes there as a mount. If at any time you would like to get more for your mount collection you can return to Netherwing Ledge and purchase additional ones from Drake Dealer Hurlunk.

Happy Grinding!

Ah the drunken Binge is over....

Finally the end of Brewfest!

Now granted it CAN be a lot of fun but I really can't get that excited about a holiday spanning two weeks that celebrate nothing more than getting inebriated. It only took running one heroic where the Tank said "Are you sure thish ish heroic? The Mobs are only level 72!" and having him careen all over the instance to make me not care for this particular festival. Fill a 25 man raid with individuals like that and I wanted to pull my hair out. Not only that but doing some of those achievements literally gave me a headache from the blurred screen....I guess it is a very good thing I don't drink in real life.

I managed to get my Brewmaster achievement without to much fuss. I also was able to pick up the Ram to go with my Kodo from last year so another mount for my collection. Still no Remote but I can live with that. I also picked up the Pink Elekk for my pet collection, figured I may as well, I had more than enough tokens.

For the first time I am now a part of the Brew of the Month Club.  The plate wearer in the family participated in this last year and loved it. In fact he was most distraught to discover that he had to renew his membership each year, so quickly became motivated to do it yet again. Recalling some of the effects of these monthly beverages I admit I am rather curious to see what awaits me in the coming year as now many of the guild will be participating along with me since we are FULL of achievers.

I will enjoy my two week break before we are back at it again farming Scarlet Monastery Graveyard for the Headless Horseman's mount. Already there has been expressed the question of "Do you think they may have upgraded his gear as well?" Many of the plate wearers in our guild are DESPERATELY hoping to see his laughing helm. Not only that but the Flying Broom was always a great favorite. I haven't heard or seen anything to indicate an upgrade so we can only hope at this point.

Rep: Cenarion Expedition

With the re-opening of the Dark Portal the Druids felt the need to send their own representatives to check out this new world. Players will first encounter them not far from the road at the west end of Hellfire Peninsula. While they have small outposts scattered through out Outland their major base of operations is located in Zangarmarsh at the Cenarion Refuge.

Doing ALL of the quests provided for this faction (there are a 118) will get you to Revered. At that point you will have to grind SOMETHING. It is what you chose to grind that will make the difference and in what order.

For myself I turned in Unidentified plant parts until I hit Honored. This quest is obtained from Lauranna Thar'well at the Cenarion Refuge. She actually has two quests, Plants of Zangarmarsh, which once completed opens up Identify Plant Parts. Now since we know that I am thrifty and won't BUY these things off the auction house there are really two good ways to farm them. If you are an herbalist farm the bog lords and get herbs off of them along with the plant parts. All others go to Serpent Lake and farm Mudfin Frenzies (the fish), they are in groups of 4 and easily taken out with aoe. It takes about 360 plant parts to get you to honored.

Once you are honored pick up your heroic key and start in on the quests. Now as I mentioned before the CE quest hubs are rather scattered about so be careful to get them all. There is the small outpost in Hellfire Peninsula (10 quests), the majority of course being located around Zangarmarsh (26), another larger quest hub in Blades Edge Mountains at Ruuan Weald (17). Terokkar Forest has a few (10) as does Netherstorm (3). In addition to these there are several quests that are "dungeon" in relation to the Coilfang Reservoir and the instances there (9).

Now Cenarion Expedition reputation is unique in that this faction carried over into the NEXT expansion. Located in the Borean Tundra in Northrend is D.E.H.T.A, at this small camp you can pick up 19 more quests that give CE rep INCLUDING another repeatable Can't Get Ear-nough. With this quest you can EASILY grind your way to exalted.

One of the nice things about this faction that still makes it desirable to players is the fact that they have a mount you can get at exalted. In addition to that there is an additional achievement if you have exalted reputation with both the Cenarion Expedition AND the Cenarion Circle.
Happy Questing!

Rep: Timbermaw Hold (and Wintersaber)

Continuing in our Reputation series, if you quest in Kalimdor, around level 45 you will enter Felwood and encounter the Timbermaw for the first time. This faction is key because their home is a VERY important tunnel between Felwood, Winterspring and Moonglade. Unfortunately pretty much the ONLY way to gain rep with them is via the dreaded "grind". Thankfully it has gotten MUCH easier than it was pre-BC.

If you are a Leatherworker, or Enchanter these guys are a good rep to gather in order to pick up some nice Pre-BC recipes that even now are in demand by Twinks. If you are an ALLIANCE mount collector you will notice I added Wintersaber reputation at the top of this heading. The reason is if you are going to grind for your Wintersaber mount I would strongly encourage you to do Timbermaw at the same time. (Kill two birds with one stone as it were) and I will go into the details of that later.

Now the other nice thing about the Timbermaw Rep is it is actually a VERY PROFITABLE rep to grind. Why? They don't drop a lot of TRASH. By that I mean, they don't tend to drop a lot of small items that don't sell for much, rather for some reason they just seem to drop cloth, greens, blues and other HIGHER value items along with the items you need for your rep turn ins. Back pre-BC I remember making an average of 300g gold an HOUR while grinding this rep (at that time a VERY nice profit.)

So how do you go about grinding this Rep? It is actually VERY simple. Start in Felwood and grind until you hit "unfriendly" at that point you can head through the tunnel unmolested. Go ahead and turn in your feathers as you get them in stacks of 5. HOLD ON TO THEM but I would grind until you have an even stacks of 5. Once upon a time you could only grind rep until Revered and then at that point only earn rep via the turn ins. This is NO LONGER the case. You will CONTINUE to earn rep from killing mobs all the way up to exalted so don't worry about keeping those stockpiles any longer.

Once you get into Winterspring the mobs drop beads rather than feathers. Now individuals all have their personal favorite places to farm beads and good reasons as to why theirs is better than others but all that matters is that you can turn them in every stack of 5.

There are also several quests that you will be able to do based on rep as well. Two of them are drop quests you will easily pick up as you are grinding. Deadwood Ritual Totem and Winterfall Ritual Totem both can only be turn in at Neutral. Meilosh in Timbermaw will ask for 30 Runecloth at friendly rep and if you are a tailor 2 Mooncloth.

Now for those of you who LOVE to fill your Rep bars as well as have pets once you reach exalted there is an additional quest that opens up in Timbermaw called "The Root of All Evil". At level 60 this was a VERY difficult quest, but at 80 it is a breeze, finish it off and you will get sent to either Ogrimmar or Ironforge and get a nice little Trinket.

Now Wintersaber...
While these mounts ARE Alliance only take heart oh Horde player, vindication IS coming in patch 3.2 with the return of Trainer Mor'vek to Un'Goro, there he will offer to help Horde players to once again raise and train Venomhide Ravasaurs as a mount... "if they can survive the creature's deadly poison."

For the Alliance once you have traversed through the Timbermaw tunnels follow the road straight out and to Frostsaber Rock, Rivern Frostwind is located literally at the very TOP of the end of that rock you need to go to the back of the rock and then climb to the top. You need to be at least level 58 to begin the quest chain with him and it IS annoying in that you can't just stack the items and do a bunch of turn ins rather you must keep running back and forth for each.

When you first encounter him he will only have one quest for you Frostsaber Provisions. This is the only quest available until you reach 1500 rep. At that point it will open up a SECOND quest Winterfall Intrusion. (See why I say do Timbermaw at the same time?) A third quest becomes available at Honored Rampaging Giants. Now Pre-BC this use to be a group quest but now can be easily soloed.

Other profit tips: In Everlook there is a quest you can get from Witch Doctor Mau'ari called Cache of Mau'ari. This quest will give you a "lucky Charm" that as long as you have it in your bags allows you to gather different E'ko. These can then be turned in for Juju of Power. Now the buffs these all give are of course no longer useful HOWEVER they ALL vendor quite well (see where this is going?) If you are going to grind, my theory is get every last drop of profit out of it you can.

Happy Grinding!
